A Good Saturday

What a performance from Forest last night. Majewski’s goal, our second, was a beautiful finish. The perfect way to start the weekend and I celebrated into the night. I shunned kebabs and McDonalds and waited til I got home to cook myself a basic pasta dish that I like.

Today, I’m off to the gym. I’ve spent the morning adding songs to my iPod. Loads of Oasis, Kasabian, AC/DC and other such rockers. I’m excited about running to them.

That’ll be 4 runs this week. Not bad.

2 in 2

Last night I went to the gym again- twice in two days for the first time ever. I was able to push it further as well and did about 4k. This schedule I’m on suggests doing about 3 x 30 minute runs in the week and then a big run at weekends, having built up some stamina. It makes sense, so I’m going to go to the gym again on Thursday and then on Saturday and/or Sunday pound them streets, provided they’re not covered in snow.

I’m not stupid, I know I need to do so much more but it does feel good to be making progress, however small.

Marathon Update

Went to the gym last night and I’m going again tonight, I’m taking it very seriously now.

For lunch I make myslef 4 salami sandwiches on granary bread with spinach, tomatoes and rocket. I eat tangerines if I need a snack and I have macaroni, peas and tinned tuna when I get in. Oh and I have Corn Flakes for breakfast with no sugar and semi-skimmed milk.

NO midweek drinking allowed either and I’m going to have to cut out weekends.

I could only do half an hour last night and I was gutted, really upset at myself. After a big Christmas and no exercise it was only to be expected. I know I’ll make quick progress again, which is why I’m going straight back down there tonight.

A few changes

I’ve always been against new year’s resolutions, believing instead that a regular assessment of your life is far better. However, being the optimist, it is exciting to look forward to the year ahead. Like looking at a garden covered in deep fresh snow, wondering where you’ll leave your footprints.

January this year falls at the start of preparations for two big events: The London Marathon and the Edinburgh Festival. I’ve taken a lot of stick for my lack of training for the marathon. Of course I have done some but I know that it’s nowhere near enough and so from today am aiming for 4 times in the gym a week, running for an hour and more if possible. I’m wary of over-doing it at the start but I think an hour’s an acceptable aim. I have to admit, I am actually now petrified about the marathon. Then Edinburgh, the annual highlight of my year. I get so excited about it, seeing friends I won’t have seen for months and making new mates. I’m hoping that ‘Fordy’s Lock-In’ will make a return, with a few changes. We’ll see. It’s time to start putting things together again though which always gets me going.

I’ll keep you updated on all of it, hopefully with some photos and videos.
